Explorers are typically between 14 and 18 years of age.
This Unit, as you may expect, has a fairly informal approach and the Explorers are encouraged to get involved in its organisation, from suggesting programme activities through to leading entire evenings. This is all done under the supervision and help of several Explorer Scout Leaders. Ad hoc groups are created as the need arises.
Activities can include almost anything that you can think of, from kite making through to bridging the Mole! Our Group is very fortunate to have a number of well-qualified Leaders for climbing, hill walking, canoeing and sailing. Extra activities include several camps, competitions and, occasionally, International Expeditions too.
We also fund raise every year for a charity chosen by the Explorers. Recently, we have raised around £1,500 for both The Meningitis Research Foundation and WaterAid, and this year the Unit has chosen to support the Epsom-based charity, Love Me Love My Mind.
The Unit meets from 7:30-9:30 pm on Fridays.
Moving Up
As new Scouts come into the Unit the older Explorers have to leave when they get to 18. From then, various options are open; Network Scouting, District Service Team and Young Leaders.
