7th Epsom Group has made regular trips overseas – from visiting our Scout friends in Sweden through to supporting community projects in Africa.
In 2020 we were planning to go to Madagascar! A team of 21 Scouts and Explorers and eight Leaders were going to work with the Tily Scouts on some charity projects. We have a contact at Akany Avoko Faravohitra, which is an inspirational children’s refuge caring for destitute, abandoned and neglected girls.
We were also planning to do some work with WaterAid as almost half of Madagascans have no clean water, and around nine in ten still have nowhere decent to go to the toilet. The Tily Scouts help WaterAid to deliver their water hygiene education programme.
We funded the trip ourselves and have raised funds for our potential projects,
The team had an ongoing programme of camps and activities to build our confidence and skills and learn about Madagascar (where our greatest challenge is to learn the Madagascan Nation Anthem in Malagasy!)
Unfortunately, our trip had to be cancelled due to the Corona virus pandemic but we were delighted to donate our project funds we had raised to the causes we identified anyway.
